We've got our eyes on a DOR12. A Dutch designed and to-build ocean rowing boat. Designed bij Dick Koopmans and Mark Slats (TWAC race winner 2017 and 2020), build by the latter and Paul Dijkstra from Dijkstra Composites. We are looking for a company that is as excited as we are and wants to brand or name the boat and sponsor (a part) of the vessel!
Prepare ourselves physically and mentally on the task ahead. Train. Train some more. And train some more!
Put all the hard work and effort into practice, game's on!
‘The World’s toughest Row’: the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge is a rough ocean crossing race, covering 3000 miles by rowing boat from La Gomera, Canary Islands to English Harbour, Antigua & Barbuda. It’s an annual event organised by Atlantic Campaigns, it takes place in december. Every year there are around 30 teams joining. The row will be a non-stop challenge for us, two hours of rowing, two hours of self- and boatcare and resting. We take turns to keep the boat going westwards. In december 2023 we will take part in this epic journey!
A Salty Journey and Sea First combined forces in order to save our much needed ocean and with that our great planet!
As we get more and more into rowing the Atlantic we understand even better what a great but fragile and threatened ecosystem it is. We are not new to these facts but with our great adventure lying ahead we realized that now we are in a good position to do something to make a change!
How?
By choosing Sea First as our main charity and becoming their newest ambassadors we will be joining them in their great mission to educate the next generation, our children. With their ‘Educate to protect’ mindset, this Dutch foundation is developing educational material to teach about the importance and the value of our Ocean. About all that lives, grows, purifies and flows in it… and… all that currently goes wrong with it. This special and indispensable ecosystem is threatened by pollution, global warming, acidification and over-exploitation.
Sea First is fully dependent and running on donations. Soon we will announce the donation platform where fundings for the foundation can go to! This allows Sea First to provide free educational packages to schools in the Netherlands and Belgium.
You can find more information on Sea First here: www.seafirst.org.
Support our mission! You can help us getting across the Ocean (or at least a little bit closer to the start) and raise more Ocean awareness by buying one of these original and sustainable items!
Designed by us and made by Katoenfabriek in Utrecht, the Netherlands! Katoenfabriek is one of only four textile printers in the Netherlands with GOTS certified screen printing operations! GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria.
The black shirt is subtle screenprinted. The ‘Ocean Depth’ (we didn’t make up the name of this color but how suitable!) shirt and Stargazer and black sweater have a fine woven label sown on. Both a ‘regular fit’!
T-shirts cost 30 euros each including postage within The Netherlands. The sweaters 55 euros
Visit our little webshop a-salty-journey.sumupstore.com or send us an email (info@a-salty-journey.com) to place your order and we will send the shirt of sweater your way asap!
To make this adventure happen we are looking for, in addition to our excisting and growing physical and mental support team, financial and material support! This can be in services, materials and of course… donations. When you would become our sponsor, your service or product will receive great national and international media attention over the next two years. And you will get a great spot for your logo/brand on our boat. In this way you are visible to everyone who will follow this epic journey. Contact us at info@a-salty-journey.com to talk about the many different posibilities!
Adventure is what brought Bea and Iris together; both always ready to engage in another quest and to chase the next dream on the horizon. This salty journey will definitely be the most epic expedition we have ever undertaken. We’re not (experienced) rowers at all, but as energized and excited as we are, we’re always going full throttle. It will be a hard challenge, undertaken with many shared laughs and tears. We are confident that this salty journey will be a worthy test of our own perseverance and limits.
Bea isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty while digging for gemstones. She loves to go out on expeditions into the mountains to search and dig for these precious litte ones.
Iris is working as a carpenter and last couple of years she’s been active at Sail Cargo Inc. This organisation is putting zero-emission shipping on the market. Iris has been part of the team that is making an awesome 45 meter wooden cargo vessel.

All good things come to an end…
Including this wild and crazy adventure. Iris left the campaign in July last year. And unfortunately at this moment I (Bea) can’t find the right way to complete this mission by myself or within another/new team. So I have decided to pull the pin and focus on new adventures for now. Non will be as big and comprehensive as this salty journey but surely it will be challenging and fun!
Who knows, one day, at the right time, with the right team, I might find myself chasing this same dream again. But for now I want to thank everybody for their support over the last 1,5 years and, hopefully, for your understanding!
